Daily Newsletter Monday 18th May 2020

Editorial:

This is the week of the virtual RHS Chelsea Flower Show and it kicked off last night with a look at Chelseas past. Those of us watching were excited to see a special mention for Bloms Bulbs, our resident gold medallists.

To mark the week, Elaine and Chris are working with the Entertainments Committee to run a Tulip Arranging Competition which kicks off today.

Tulips will be available to purchase in aid of the same Great Ormond Street Hospital for Sick Children from 09:00 on Monday 18th May 2020. Residents can give whatever they feel is appropriate for these prize winning bunches, and are then asked to do a creative arrangement of them for the competition.

Tulips will be available from:

  • Scaraben, Water Lane, Chelveston (opposite the bottom of Hillside)
  • Melrose Cottage, Caldecott
  • 24 The Crescent, Chelston Rise

Residents should send photographs of their arrangements via WhatsApp to Adrian Dale (07850 570007) or Email (coordinator@covid-19.chelveston.org.uk) by 09:00am on Wednesday 20th May 2020.

All entries will be published on the web and Chris Blom will judge them during Wednesday. Winners will be announced on Thursday 21st May 2020.

Birthdays:

None that we know of. But Vanessa and Bob from Chelston Rise are celebrating 8 years in the Village. The Crescent isn't their final resting place, they are looking for something older and tucked away in the Village, so let them know if you are selling!

Nationally:

170 deaths were reported by the Government yesterday taking us to 34,636 across the UK. The number of new lab confirmed cases was still nearly 3,142. Both of these figures are better than expected, but there is always a drop at weekends. Let's see what happens today!

Locally:

In Northamptonshire another 20 cases were reported yesterday with the specimen dates being spread back over the last few days. This is another significant increase, taking us to 1,281 confirmed cases in the County. We are clearly seeing an increase in hospitalised cases over the last week. We mustn't let our guards down.

7 new infections were reported in East Northamptonshire yesterday, a big jump over previous days.

Local Authority Cases per 100,000 population Daily increase
Bedford 549 319.9 1
Kettering 197 194.5 1
Northampton 434 192.8 4
East Northamptonshire 169 180.0 7
Wellingborough 133 167.3 2
Corby 107 151.1 2
