Editorial:

On Thursday the Government announced a relaxation to the social distancing rules. It is certainly most welcome. But what was the point in saying that they only applied from Monday 1st June? Most people won't have even heard this caveat when it was announced, and those that did will probably have ignored it. This weekend will be a party weekend in the UK. I really hope that the Government understood this when the relaxation was announced, and that they factored this into their calculations.

I am a responsible citizen, I understand the risks we face. I have spent literally hundreds of hours working on this emergency to keep people safe. And yet I will cross the line this weekend, breaking some aspect of the so called "rules". I will do so in the knowledge that I understand the risks and have balanced them against the broader risks of life grinding to a halt, and individuals suffering in the process.

I do hope that sense prevails soon, we are adults. Collectively, we want to stay safe, and have no desire to ruin the lives of others.

Wouldn't it be good if Her Majesty's Government treated us like this?
