Editorial:

The Government has published its 50 page strategy for getting us out of lock down. It is now possible to spend unlimited amounts of time outdoors. You can visit one person outside your household at a time, provided that you stay outdoors and observe social distancing. You can also drive anywhere within England to visit outdoor spaces (but not to Wales or Scotland). Face coverings are now advised in enclosed spaces to reduce the transmission of the virus. These changes come into force on Wednesday, but the reality is the people will be starting immediately.

The Parish Council held its Annual Meeting last night on Zoom, with members of the public able to attend. The mechanism worked well and ensured that the Council can continue with its business on our behalf.

Birthdays:

None that we know of, but Andy Horn enjoyed a great day after all your good wishes.

Nationally:

269 deaths were reported by the Government yesterday taking us to 31,855 across the UK. The number of new lab confirmed cases was still over 3,900. There may be a jump today because of the usual weekend reporting delays.

Locally:

In Northamptonshire the figures continue to be corrected daily and yesterday corrections showed a jump to 12 new infections on the 7th May. The new daily cases appears now to have plateaued at 15-20 new cases a day across the County.

20 new cases were added to the cumulative totals in the 5 local districts I listed yesterday. I have added Corby to the table as well. Surprisingly Corby and Wellingborbough have lower infection rates than East Northamptonshire.

Local Authority Cases per 100,000 population Daily increase
Bedford 504 293.7 3
Kettering 179 176.8 8
Northampton 391 173.7 0
East Northamptonshire 151 160.8 4
Wellingborough 114 137.1 5
Corby 96 135.5 5
